As SLPs working in both the educational and medical model, we are often required to get consent. At school, I get consent from parents to evaluate a child. No matter how much I want to help one, I can’t help them without consent from the parent. There are rules and laws to protect both me and the child. I must get a parent’s consent to speak to a child’s doctor or an outside agency. That’s for privacy reasons.
At the nursing home, I had to get consent to treat from family members if a patient wasn’t able to make their own decisions or if they were going to get billed out of pocket. Consent from the physician was also required if I was going to change anything about that resident’s plan of care.
Do you realize…or need a reminder today that NOTHING happens to each of us…good or bad… without God’s consent? We are protected in a much bigger way than we can imagine.
Matthew 10:29 (CSB) says, “Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent.” Matthew goes on to say that God knows how many hairs are on your head. That’s how much He is involved in our daily lives.
That extra raise the district granted this year?…God’s consent. The book fair blessing that the PTO gave?…God’s consent. The Starbucks gift card that showed up on your desk?…God’s consent.
BUT, wait for this one too. The parent who complained, questioning your therapy schedule?…God’s consent. The co-worker heard speaking negative comments behind your back?…God’s consent. The child who just won’t behave in therapy…God’s consent.
Some people think that God doesn’t get involved or care about the day to day happenings in our lives. I am here today to tell you He does! We place earthly limitations on God without even realizing it. Let’s look at what the Bible says about God.
God is omniscient. He knows everything.
1 Chronicles 28:9 says, “For the LORD searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought.” He knows what I want in life, whether it is a Godly desire or a selfish desire…and He loves me anyway.
God knows how excited I get when I receive new books for my therapy room. He knows how much I love coffee. It truly satisfies my soul some days! He also knows how upset that made me when that parent questioned my decisions because of how much I think about each individual child and plan how I can best meet their needs. He knows my heart was hurt when someone told me about that co-workers opinion of me. He knows how much I worry about what others think. He knows my heart breaks for my students and how hard I try to figure each individual one out to make their lives easier as well as that of their teachers and parents. He knows. He knew when He created me, and He won’t forget.
How? Because God is Omniscient. He knows it all. He has perfect understanding of it all through His wisdom.
God is omnipresent. He is everywhere, even right here with me.
Charles Spurgeon once said that “we believe that God FILLETH every space.” In 1 Kings 8:27, King Solomon said that “nothing can contain Him.” God isn’t spread out, a little here and a little there. He is present to ALL space, even right here with you now. Psalm 11:4 says His eyes examine all.
That is not meant to frighten you or concern you in any way. I’m sharing that today to encourage you that when you are facing trials or happy times, God knows it is happening and is right there with you. You are not alone. You are under His will, His consent and with him. If you are a child of God today, praise Him for these promises and lean into Him in the good as well as the bad times.
If you are not a child of God and you have not yet experienced the beginning of a relationship with Him, please feel free to contact me so we can talk more. If you would like prayer about a certain situation you are going through, please let me know.
We have a fellowship of SLP believers who support and encourage one another on Facebook. Please join us!
May you find comfort and hope in these words and be reminded of His faithful promises.
