My students are learning about community helpers and occupations in their Pre K and Kindergarten classrooms. I am always looking for better ways to correlate their speech and language IEPs with their curriculum objectives.
I like using these (FREE!) no prep worksheets where students match what tool is needed by what occupation to target associations in speech therapy. So many students have this language goal in the early childhood setting. It is especially good to use the week before Community Helpers Week to pre-teach vocabulary. The worksheets are available in black and white or color. I laminated the color version to use with dry erase markers in speech therapy.
These interactive books and Bingo cards were made with therapy in mind as well as homework. The interactive books have so many pages you can switch them out for several sessions until all of the vocabulary is mastered. Put them in the classroom in the student’s read to self bag or in a literacy center.
Three cover options makes this book flexible for targeting:
People in my community
People in my school
All about Occupations
Use this FREE handout and the interactive book purchased through this link to send home with your students. Parents will appreciate the guidance and students will LOVE showing off what they have learned at school.
Laminate the parent instructions page as well as the interactive book for increased durability on trips home in little backpacks. Place it all in a gallon zip lock bag with a note to return to school such as (free download) THIS ONE.
Parent training is necessary for parent involvement. I hope you are able to use this free download as a tool to provide your students’ parents with the skills needed to improve their child’s language skills through activities at home and in their community.
